Spotlight on SWAT Leadership: Jalen Teague
September 23, 2025

The 2025–2026 Dixie County High School SWAT President, Jalen Teague, is kicking off his senior year with enthusiasm and determination. Serving as president for the past two years, Jalen has proven to be a dedicated leader and an energetic presence at DCHS. Along with SWAT, he is active in several organizations including SGA, FCA, and Beta Club. Known as the school’s “hype man,” Jalen loves connecting with others and spreading positivity—whether through leadership, school spirit, or encouraging his peers each day.

As a SWAT leader, Jalen has made a real impact in the community. He has served as the youth representative for the Tobacco Free Partnership of Dixie County and has been a strong advocate for policy change. After presenting to the Cross City Town Council about adopting a Tobacco- and Vape-Free Policy, he worked closely with the Town Manager to help implement the change, including posting “No Tobacco” and “No Vape” signage at town park entrances.

Last school year, Jalen also guided the DCHS SWAT Club in a schoolwide tobacco litter assessment. The team walked around the school grounds to observe tobacco and vape usage, litter, and signage needs. Jalen compiled their findings and shared them with the Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida Policy Manager and the Statewide Youth Advocate, offering recommendations and encouraging the Tobacco Free Partnership to use the data in future efforts.

When asked why he chooses to lead, Jalen’s response says it all:
“I’m the SWAT president because I don’t just talk about making good choices – I hype it up and get people excited about it. My job is to show that leading and living strong isn’t boring, it’s powerful and fun. If you’re not having a good time making a difference, then you’re not doing it right!”
